bp successfully completes multi-well subsea intervention campaign on DWG

bp has successfully completed a multi-well subsea intervention campaign in the Deepwater Gunashli (DWG) area of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, bp told APA-Economics.

The campaign, which started in the fourth quarter of 2025, was completed safely and ahead of schedule and enabled subsea intervention activities on seven wells.

The campaign marked the first deployment of riserless light well intervention (RLWI) technology in bp's operations in the Caspian region, using Oceaneering International’s Blue Ocean Riserless Intervention System (BORIS), an advanced subsea mechanical wireline intervention system. This technology enabled access to subsea wells without the need for conventional drilling risers while providing well control, pressure containment and subsea intervention capabilities throughout the campaign.

The well interventions activities were carried out from the subsea construction vessel Khankendi, which served as a light well intervention vessel with the RLWI system integrated onto it - another first for the Caspian. A key element of the project was the installation and first-time use of a moonpool system aboard the Khankendi vessel. Located near the vessel's centreline, the moonpool provides a sheltered vertical opening through the hull, allowing the safe deployment of subsea equipment, remotely operated vehicles and well intervention tools directly to the seabed.

As part of the campaign, intervention jobs were completed on seven subsea wells that had previously been considered difficult to access using conventional intervention methods. The campaign enabled efficient well surveillance and helped identify opportunities for reservoir pressure management and production rate enhancement, supporting efforts to unlock further potential in the ACG field.
