"Clean environment and green economy are of the main priorities in Azerbaijan's agenda and the country joins the global efforts in this field," said Elnur Aliyev, First Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
He noted that the rate of poverty in Azerbaijan has dropped from 49% to 5%. According to the report on last year's results, Azerbaijan's foreign debt is 10% of GDP. We are now among the middle-income countries.
The Deputy Minister said that Azerbaijan is ambitious in the field of green energy.
"The energy consumption from green energy sources has reached 24%. Azerbaijan has the responsibility of reducing the carbon emissions to 40% by 2050. Our liberated territories were declared as the green energy zone. Solar and wind energy infrastructure is being built in these areas. Azerbaijan has an ambition to become a green energy producer at the global level," Elnur Aliyev added.
