“Today, we will discuss the Green Energy Corridor project between the South Caucasus and the European Union. The initiative to lay an submarine cable through the bottom of the Black Sea is of particular importance for the region. It also defines Azerbaijan as the main partner in future electricity exports to the European Union,” said European Union Commissioner for Energy, co-chair of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor Mrs. Kadri Simson during her speech at 10th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 2nd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting, APA reports.

“This is important because, consumption of electricity in the European Union will increase. Electricity demand is planned to increase by more than 16% by the year 2030 and nearly 80% by 2040. This is important for future infrastructure projects, as well as for us. It is no coincidence that Azerbaijan was chosen as the chair for the next UN Climate Change Conference in November and this is the result of Your tireless activity. This is a demonstration of Your ability of executing complex infrastructure projects and future vision for clean transition. I have no doubt that it will be a successful COP29 and you can count on the support of the European Union with full confidence,” – commissioner noted.
