Discussions have been held regarding fuel imports from Azerbaijan to Armenia, and there are opportunities for cooperation, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan told the Armenian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, APA reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan confirmed that the issue of exporting oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia was recently discussed in Gabala with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

Responding today to a question from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty about whether Yerevan and Baku have already reached an agreement on fuel imports from Azerbaijan, the Deputy Prime Minister said: “Yes, discussions have taken place, and there are opportunities for cooperation.”

The Deputy Prime Minister was also asked about the volume of fuel imports from Azerbaijan under discussion, which Armenian companies intend to purchase oil from Azerbaijan, at what price Azerbaijan is ready to sell oil and petroleum products to Armenia, and whether this would be competitive with fuel imported from Russia.

In response, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that “the next stage regarding fuel is already being carried out within the framework of cooperation between private exporters and importers, and the terms of any possible agreements will be based on market principles.”

When asked, “Besides importing Azerbaijani fuel, what other areas of mutual trade are Armenia and Azerbaijan discussing?” Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan did not give a specific answer, merely noting that “discussions regarding other products are still ongoing.”

The fact that Yerevan and Baku are discussing the export of oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia has also been publicly reported by the Azerbaijani side. Azerbaijani Presidential Assistant Hikmet Hajiyev made a statement on the matter, noting that in parallel with the border delimitation process, the deputy prime ministers of the two countries have also discussed certain areas of mutual trade. One of the areas currently under discussion is the export of oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia.
