CIS Secretary General: Election preparation process is carried out in accordance with Azerbaijan's legislation

The CIS Observers Mission has been working since January 17 to monitor the elections in Azerbaijan, said the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Sergey Lebedev in his statement to journalists, APA reports.

According to him, during the past weeks, 8 observers visited Azerbaijan’s regions, got themselves familiarized with the activities of District Election Commissions, establishment of territorial polling stations under the leadership of the Mission Headquarters.

He noted that the pre-election preparation process creates the impression of preparations being made in a planned manner, at a high level of organization and in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan:

“First of all, we do not rely on international norms and requirements, but rely on the legislation of the state, because it must be followed. For instance, voting rights and election laws in the United States are completely different, as well as, it is in a different form in the European Union member states, election laws in each country has its own characteristics. Therefore, we are guided by the laws of the CIS region. We observe that the preparation process is carried out in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” – he added.
