Amid recent developments in the South Caucasus, the opening of the Zangezur Corridor , and the entrusting of its management to an American company, is being evaluated as the beginning of a new phase in regional politics and economy, said Turkish political commentator Engin Özer in an interview with APA.

The planned investments in the region will present a significant opportunity for development in Yerevan.

According to Özer, the likelihood of conflict decreases between economically enriched countries, and this is also a positive development for Azerbaijan.

The expert argues that, as a result of this process, Iran will be the country most economically disadvantaged in the region.

In his opinion, Iran will become further isolated from the economic processes in the South Caucasus from now on: “Iran and some other countries may suffer economic losses from the process. Until now, cargo destined for Armenia and Azerbaijan was transported via transit routes. Once the Zangezur corridor becomes operational, those countries will be deprived of transit revenues. At the same time, with the completion of railway connections, projects such as transporting Kazakh wheat to the Middle East via Azerbaijani ports, or even the creation of new oil pipelines, may come onto the agenda.”
