Today is the anniversary of the liberation of Fuzuli city of Azerbaijan from occupation, APA reports.
Fuzuli city was liberated from Armenian occupation on October 17, 2020, with the battles conducted as a result of a counter-offensive launched by the Azerbaijani Army on September 27, 2020.
From the day the battles started to October 17, 2020, several villages of the Fuzuli district were liberated from occupation with successful operations. The President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of the Fuzuli district from occupation in his address to the nation on October 17.
In his address to the nation on the same day, the President also announced the liberation of Gochahmadli, Juvarli, Pirahmadli, Musabayli, Chiman, Ishigli and Dadali villages of Fuzuli region besides the city of Fuzuli from occupation.
Fierce battles took place for the liberation of Fuzuli city from occupation. The Azerbaijani Army, which broke the enemy's resistance, forced them to retreat and suffered a heavy defeat. During the Fuzuli operation, a large number of Armenian troops and equipment were destroyed.
The medal "For the liberation of Fuzuli" was established in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, servicemen who demonstrated personal courage and bravery by participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the Fuzuli district were awarded the medal "For the liberation of Fuzuli."
Recall that the Fuzuli district was occupied on August 23, 1993, by the Armenian Armed Forces. During the occupation, the Armenians destroyed the city of Fuzuli, the villages of the district, committed acts of vandalism against religious, historical, cultural monuments, cemeteries, as well as nature.
