Azerbaijan Milli Majlis adopts statement regarding EP resolution
# 06 October 2023 11:56 (UTC +04:00)

The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan issued a statement today regarding the resolution of the European Parliament dated October 5, 2023, APA reports.

The statement says that the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan expresses its strong objection to the adoption of a biased and non-objective resolution by the European Parliament on October 5, 2023, and strongly condemns this action targeting our country: "We remind you that Azerbaijan has no obligations before the European Parliament. It would be better if the European Parliament dealt with the rampant Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, a massive and gross violation of migrants' rights, and other such deep-rooted problems in Europe. The mentioned resolution was prepared on the basis of false information of anti-Azerbaijani, Islamophobic deputies, most of whom are from this country, at the instigation of the French government. This step of the European Parliament is another clear example of its reliance on double standards and proves its selective approach to issues.

Neglecting the pain, ethnic cleansing, Khojaly genocide, the fate of more than 1 million refugees and internally displaced people, the razing of cities and villages, the destruction of historical, cultural and religious heritage caused by the occupation of 20 percent of the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan for nearly 30 years. The European Parliament's adoption of such a resolution aimed at the defense of the so-called institution created by the Republic of Armenia after the anti-terrorist measures against the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia and the illegal Armenian gangs, which continue to remain in the territory of Azerbaijan, is a clear support for separatism.

France, the main initiator of the resolution, has become the main obstacle to ensuring peace and security in the South Caucasus region in recent years. France, which is bankrupt in different regions of the world, is trying to turn the South Caucasus region into an unstable zone by dragging it into new dangers. The fact that France supports Armenian separatism in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan and tries to apply its new colonial experience in the South Caucasus region, exaggerates the Christian factor and approaches the past conflict from the position of religious fanaticism is a manifestation of its crusader policy.

After the so-called "Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh" announced its independence, the European Parliament's defense of it shows political hypocrisy and serves to re-escalate the situation in the region. By supporting this so-called institution during the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, the European Parliament is responsible for the continuation of the occupation for many years and the killing of tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis.

With this kind of biased and non-objective activity, the European Parliament deals a crushing blow to its reputation and shows that it has become a toy in the hands of the Armenian lobby and its supporting forces. As a result of the European Parliament's anti-Azerbaijani and Islamophobic policy, relations between the European Parliament and Azerbaijan are at a low level. A number of deputies represented in the European Parliament represent the interests of lobby groups, not European voters. Such behavior is also a manifestation of chauvinism and extreme right-wing thinking. With this wrong policy, the European Parliament endangers the South Caucasus policy of the European Union.

Contrary to the claims put forward in the resolution, the government of Azerbaijan is implementing complex measures to solve social, humanitarian, economic and infrastructural issues in the Garabagh region with the aim of ensuring sustainable reintegration of the Armenian residents living in the Garabagh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan into the Azerbaijani society and enabling them to benefit from the protection of the Azerbaijani state.

Contrary to the statements made by the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and other international organizations, the European Parliament's claim that the Armenian residents who voluntarily left the region were forcibly displaced from the region aims to confuse the international community.

The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls on the leadership of the European Parliament to stop the destructive and biased forces surrounded by corruption, to support the efforts to create peace and stability in the region by adopting objective documents that reflect the new realities that have arisen in the South Caucasus region.

Note that a commission was established in the parliament to prepare the draft of the statement related to the resolution of the European Parliament dated October 5, 2023. The chairman of the commission is Nizami Safarov, the members of the commission are Elman Mammadov, Agiye Nakhchivanli, Tural Ganjaliyev, Razi Nurullayev.
