"In recent decades, the world has been dominated by a few countries, but this is changing, and we are now seeing the global change trend towards the Gulf countries, the South Caucasus countries, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia," said Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport, during a panel discussion at the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that these countries play an important role not only in trade, but also in the development of technology:
“Last year, the volume of global trade was about 33 trillion US dollars, and compared to previous years, last year was more difficult in terms of diversifying transit routes. Traders and countries were not satisfied with the existing diversification, and therefore, all parties and countries were turning to Azerbaijan to ask how we could play an important role in diversifying routes between the East and the West. In recent decades, we have not only been active in building the appropriate infrastructure, but also played an important role in bringing these countries together and ensuring the alignment of our positions.”
R. Nabiyev also said that the Middle Corridor is not controlled by just one country:
"It is like a union of countries that are good neighbors, share common goals, and benefit from each other. We now have a philosophy of interdependence. We understand that the success of each of us depends on the success of the others, and therefore we coordinate not only our infrastructure projects, but also how to ensure the best use of that infrastructure. In recent years, after the liberation of our territories, one of the topics that we have discussed is how the Middle Corridor can be diversified. This view and idea has been put forward that the Zangezur corridor can play an important role in the Middle Corridor, and we have been pushing this agenda forward for the last five years. And in August of this year, this corridor was also confirmed in the international arena. That is, during the bilateral meeting between Mr. Trump and Pashinyan, this view was put forward that the Zangezur corridor will become an important part of the Middle Corridor. We do not see the Zangezur corridor as an alternative to the existing corridors. We believe that "This will be an area that will play a significant role in increasing freight traffic, for example, when weather conditions do not allow it. In total, approximately 15 million additional tons of freight will be added to the corridor."
