Significant results have been achieved along the North-South corridor, said Oleg Belozyorov, General Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways, during the plenary meeting of the CIS Railway Transport Council held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, as a result of the intensive work of railway workers from Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran, the average transit time from Moscow to the Iranian port of Bandarabas has been reduced from 27 to 16 days in two years.

"Container transportation along this corridor, which connects with Iran, continues to increase on both the western and eastern routes. For example, over the past 10 months, 6,558 containers have been transported via Astara on the western route, which is an increase of 58.3% compared to the same period last year. This figure reflects only Russian cargo. Transportation from Kazakhstan, China, and neighboring countries has also increased," Oleg Belozyorov noted.
