Georgia has expressed its readiness to cooperate with the People’s Republic of China in increasing transport flows between China and Europe, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said during the opening ceremony of the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai, APA-Economics reports, citing TASS.
“Georgia reaffirms its readiness to continue cooperation aimed at increasing transport flows between China and Europe,” the Prime Minister said.
He highlighted the positive dynamics in cargo transportation between the two countries. Specifically, from January to August 2025, the number of containers transported between China and Georgia increased by 71%, reaching 12,000 units. In addition, the volume of cargo transported in 2024 exceeded the 2023 figure by 15 times.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, during the first nine months of 2025, the trade turnover between China and Georgia reached USD 1.65 billion, marking a 15% increase.
“If Georgia continues to play an increasingly important role as a strategic bridge between Europe and Asia, our cooperation will continue to yield tangible results in trade, infrastructure, and investment, create new opportunities, and strengthen our economic resilience,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Note that the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) plays a key role in increasing the volume of cargo transported from China to Europe through Georgia. This international transport corridor passes through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, extending further to Türkiye and European countries. The route also contributes to the development of the international “Belt and Road” initiative, which aims to revive the historical Silk Road in modern contexts.
