It is impossible to address complex challenges related to agriculture and environmental protection without regional cooperation, Georgian Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili said during a panel discussion at the conference titled “Modern Agricultural Cooperation as the Foundation of Sustainable Development and Guarantee of Food Security” held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that cooperation should be deepened both in the Caucasus region and in the Black Sea and Caspian regions in order to jointly respond to common challenges.
“This is an extremely important issue. On the other hand, our region and the world in general are facing serious and complex problems. Ongoing geopolitical tensions and regional conflicts are disrupting agri-food value chains. This directly affects food availability and prices in various regions and demonstrates how interconnected global food systems are.
Under such conditions, regional cooperation is of vital importance. Ensuring food security requires not only the right policies, but also efficient transport corridors and reliable logistics chains.
In this regard, the role of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and the Middle Corridor is extremely important. Good coordination in this direction is of great significance,” he said.
According to the minister, against the backdrop of current global uncertainties, it is important to further strengthen cooperation among countries located along the corridor.
“Our efforts are aimed at maintaining an open, predictable, and secure environment that supports economic development and increases the investment attractiveness of our region.
At the same time, when we speak of cooperation, we do not mean only trade. We are talking about building trust, strengthening partnerships, and supporting regional stability,” Songulashvili added.
