On May 10, on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the birthday of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the inauguration of the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex took place with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, APA-Economics reports citing “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC.
The Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex was built within the second phase of the Barda–Aghdam Railway Line project. This infrastructure facility, covering nearly 8 hectares, includes all necessary rooms, as well as waiting halls, ticket offices, a library, shops, entertainment areas, a restaurant, and relaxation zones.
Passenger access has been ensured both to the train platform and to the bus stops.
Various service buildings for different types of transport and a passenger platform were also built within the complex area. The first covered railway platform in Azerbaijan was constructed at the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex, with a length of 350 meters. Above-ground parking for private, mid-sized, and large-capacity vehicles, platforms for intercity and intraregional bus routes, bicycle parking, a park, and electric charging stations for electric vehicles have also been established.
The railway station within the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex will be able to transport 800–1000 passengers daily, while the bus terminal will serve 1300–1500 passengers per day. The complex will function as an integrated transportation hub.
As part of the opening ceremony, the first symbolic passenger train departed on the Barda–Aghdam railway line.
Note that the foundation of this strategic infrastructure project, the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex, was laid on October 4, 2022, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
The Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex will enhance access to public transportation in the Karabakh economic region, contribute to the socio-economic revival of Aghdam District, expand Azerbaijan’s transportation potential, and make a significant contribution to the “Great Return” process.
Overall, the Barda–Aghdam and Horadiz–Agbend railway projects being implemented in Karabakh and East Zangazur will have positive economic impacts on the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. The new railway lines will enable faster and more cost-effective transportation of both passengers and industrial and agricultural products, significantly increasing the region’s logistical potential.
Located at the intersection of the East-West and North-South transportation corridors, the region is becoming a strategic hub for freight aggregation, sorting, and distribution. Infrastructure facilities such as the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex and logistics centers will stimulate both local production and the development of international trade. This complex is set to become a key transport exchange center for the Karabakh region.
