Based on the forecasts by the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the volume of transportation along the Middle Corridor is expected to reach 11 million tons by 2030, and container capacity is projected to increase to 865,000 TEU by 2040, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Communications Department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC told journalists, APA-Economics’ correspondent dispatched to Zangilan reports.
He stated that in this regard, the opening of the Zangezur Corridor, an important branch of the Middle Corridor, holds special significance.
"The Zangezur Corridor functions not only as a key part of the Middle Corridor but also as an important complementary segment of the North–South Transport Corridor. This corridor creates additional opportunities for transporting cargo coming from India and Iran to the north through Azerbaijan. For example, cargo entering from Iran can be directed through Nakhchivan to Türkiye, and from there to Northern Europe," said Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.
