The year 2024 has been marked by significant achievements in expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and the People's Republic of China’s railway administration, as well as other organizations, and increasing freight transportation by rail, Azerbaijan Railways told APA-Economics.
Last year, a total of 358 block trains were dispatched via the China–Central Asia–Azerbaijan route, and of these, 146 trains (15,292 TEU) carried transit cargo, while 212 trains (20,956 TEU) transported imported goods. The transported cargo mainly consisted of medical supplies, cars and car spare parts, bicycles, motorcycles, water pumps, food, and non-food items, etc.
Amid expanding cooperation, it is planned to increase the number of block trains dispatched from China to Azerbaijan and Europe more than threefold by 2025, reaching 1,000 trains annually. Azerbaijan's infrastructure capacity enables the achievement of this goal.
Thus, China-Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan-China freight transportation accelerates the establishment of the Middle Corridor as an East-West-East route, at the same time, it provides fast, safe, and efficient services for cargo owners in both directions.
