Azerbaijan is in the central part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTQ) project. At the same time, it is also a leading country in the realization of the "Eurasian Transport Route" and in enhancing cargo transportation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, Ufuk Yalchin, the General Director and Chairman of the Board of the Turkish State Railways’ "TCDD Taşımacılık" company, told APA-Economics.
He noted that, as in the BTC project, Azerbaijan plays a central role in this project as well: "This is a corridor that opens to Europe along with Georgia and Türkiye. Azerbaijan takes on another role in addition to its role in the BTC. Through this cooperation, we will reach the desired level in cargo transportation with Azerbaijan."
U. Yalchin also shared his thoughts on the Zangezur corridor: "Our cooperation with brotherly Azerbaijan is not just a recent development; we have been aware of the problems Azerbaijan has faced in Karabakh for decades. With Türkiye's support, Azerbaijan liberated its lands from occupation. Now, the two countries will be able to meet directly through the Zangezur corridor, rather than via other countries, allowing for the mutual transportation of desired goods. The future connection of the Zangezur corridor to Kars signifies a more effective and rapid emergence of Azerbaijan and Türkiye as a single state. We will experience this together. There are also political perspectives and statements from other countries. But we will continue to dismantle the barriers between us and elevate our unity. That is what the Zangezur corridor represents."
