Azerbaijan and Russia are working on a joint project to introduce electronic consignment notes (e-CMR) in cargo transportation, said Natalya Zadonskaya, Deputy Director of the International Projects and Digitalization Department of the Russian “Directorate of International Transport Corridors” JSC, APA reports, citing Russian media.
According to her, the project will be implemented within the framework of the “North-South” international transport corridor and involves testing digital document circulation between two parties.
“We cooperate with all countries included in the “North-South” corridor. A pilot project is being developed with Azerbaijan specifically on the introduction of electronic international consignment notes (e-CMR). In addition, Azerbaijan also calls on us to introduce electronic permits. I think that the Russian Federation will respond positively to this initiative and continue the work,” Zadonskaya said.
According to experts, the introduction of the e-CMR system will be an important step in terms of tracking cargo, speeding up customs and border crossing procedures, as well as reducing paper document circulation.
