# 29 January 2026 17:09 (UTC +04:00)

Today in Tbilisi, relevant agreements were signed between BTKI Railways LLC — a joint venture of the subsidiary companies of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) and Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway LLC — and Georgian Railway JSC, in order to ensure the full launch of operations of the joint venture along the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line, ADY told APA-Economics.

One of the agreements provides the use of the Marabda–Akhalkalaki railway infrastructure, while the other stipulates the provision of terminal services at the Akhalkalaki station.

It was noted at the signing ceremony that the new agreements will enable more efficient organization of operations along the BTK, an important segment of the Middle Corridor, and will allow freight transportation volumes to be increased.

It should be noted that ADY has successfully completed repair, restoration, and modernization works on the 184-kilometer section of the BTK line passing through Georgia and featuring complex geographical terrain, as a result of which the line’s annual freight capacity has been increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons. The main purpose of modernizing this railway line is to enhance the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and to turn the BTK into one of the corridor’s main freight transport arteries.

BTKI Railways LLC was established on August 13, 2024. The activities of the joint venture cover areas such as the efficient management of operations along the BTK, the attraction of new cargo, strengthening strategic transport links in the region, and increasing the potential of the Middle Corridor.
