Official Moscow has described Yerevan’s statements about transferring control of Armenia’s railways from Russia to another country as strange and unacceptable, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during today’s briefing, noted that Russia supports the opening of all regional economic and transport communications.

Zakharova emphasized that the trilateral working group co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia has done significant work in this direction:

“For more than 20 years, Armenian Railways has been under the management of South Caucasus Railways. Not only has it consistently fulfilled the terms of the concession agreement, but it has also made substantial investments in infrastructure and created numerous jobs. Apparently, this has been forgotten in Yerevan.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that Russian operators represent a structure that does not deprive Armenia of its competitive advantages.

Zakharova also recalled that Russia’s position regarding the restoration of railway connections from Armenia to Azerbaijan and Türkiye had previously been articulated by Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk.
