Russia was ready to grant asylum to Nicolás Maduro, APA reports, citing The Washington Post.
This was discussed by a cardinal of the Vatican Church and the Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, during meetings with U.S. officials.
According to the newspaper, citing an anonymous source, Parolin asked U.S. officials in his conversations with them to give Maduro time to accept Russia’s offer and resign.
It should be noted that some time earlier, Maduro and his wife were detained in an operation carried out by U.S. military forces.
