Unblocking transport communications in South Caucasus not within Alen Simonyan's authority

Unblocking the transport communications in the South Caucasus is not within Alen Simonyan’s authority, said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing today, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

According to her, the issue of unblocking transport communications in the South Caucasus has been entrusted to the deputy prime ministers by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.

Zakharova stated that in Armenia, it is not Alen Simonyan, but another state official who is dealing with this issue: "I do not want to comment on the specific statements of a particular person. We believe that this is not within his authority."

Zakharova also mentioned that they have observed the destructive impact of Western countries on the implementation of the trilateral agreements regarding the unblocking of communications in the region: "The position of the Armenian authorities on this issue also sometimes raises questions for us. Due to these two factors, the work of the trilateral working group has been stalled. We have commented on this repeatedly, and it is not news. We are confident that the restoration of cooperation within the trilateral working group will soon contribute not only to the unblocking transport communications in the region but also to the social and economic development of Armenia and the entire region in the future," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson added.
