A shootout has taken place on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border, APA reports, citing the Tajik service of Radio Liberty.
According to the report, Tajik officers were killed in a clash with armed Afghan smugglers.
It is reported that several Afghan fighters were among the dead. It is believed that one more person was detained.
According to one of the sources, there were only 8 smugglers, half of whom managed to escape.
The incident occurred on the day four new checkpoints were opened on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border.
Officials did not comment on the shooting or the information about the casualties.
