Tokayev comments on Nazarbayev’s meetings with Putin

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has commented on meetings between the country’s first president Nursultan Nazarbayev and Russian President Vladimir Putin, APA's Russian bureau reports.

Tokayev said the meetings, which have become regular, are of an informal nature.

“The Russian president himself emphasizes this point. At a recent meeting in St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin told me that he would receive Nursultan Nazarbayev at his own insistence. The Russian president is known for his goodwill toward his friends and colleagues. I am not interested in the content of such conversations and never ask questions on this topic. As for Nursultan Nazarbayev personally, I have repeatedly described him as the founder of modern Kazakh statehood. His contributions to the creation of state institutions, the introduction of market mechanisms in the economy, and the construction of the new capital are obvious,” Tokayev said.

Note that on December 27, Putin received Nazarbayev at the Kremlin, according to the Russian president’s press service.
