The bodies of three tourists have been found following an avalanche in the Munku-Sardyk area of Buryatia, while one person may still remain under the debris, Russian media reports.
A group of seven climbers was caught in a powerful avalanche while moving near a pass known as the “26th Party Congress.”
Three members of the group managed to survive, while four went missing. Later, during search operations, the bodies of three tourists were discovered. Officials do not rule out that the remaining missing climber may also be under the avalanche.
Rescuers continue operations in the area. Difficult weather conditions and mountainous terrain are complicating the search efforts.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
