Two anonymous calls about planned terrorist acts were received by the Security Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on the day of the funeral of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, Georgia’s State Security Service stated, APA’s local bureau reports.

According to the information, it was determined that the calls were made by a teenager.

He claimed to be near the Holy Trinity Cathedral, where the farewell ceremony for Ilia II was being held, stating that he was armed with a firearm and had planted an explosive device in the area.

The teenager threatened to carry out an explosion within 20 minutes if evacuation was not conducted. He used software to alter his voice, a virtual phone number from another country, and hid his IP address to avoid identification.

As a result of operative investigation measures, the suspect was identified. Several phones, a laptop, and other material evidence were seized from him.

The teenager confessed to the crime and will be charged with providing false information about terrorism, which carries a penalty of three to six years of imprisonment.
