Simon Vandenbroucke, a staff member of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Georgia, was denied entry into the country, APA reports citing Novosti Gruzia reports.
Vandenbroucke, on Wednesday, was returned to his country of departure on the nearest flight from the Georgian capital Tbilisi’s international airport.
The reasons for the refusal of entry are not specified.
The delegation said they had addressed the Georgian MFA on the matter and that ‘the Georgian authorities presented oral apologies for the regrettable incident and confirmed that the staff member is welcome to come back to his place of posting’.
Simon Vandenbroucke works in the aforementioned delegation’s collaboration department, which is part of the European External Action Service (EEAS).
