Masked special forces of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) have entered the premises of the residence of the head of the Armenian Church, APA reports citing local media.
Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, personally confronted the security forces in order to prevent a clash between the clergy and law enforcement.
Journalists were removed from the area.
Earlier, the police chief of Etchmiadzin had arrived at the church.
Currently, discussions are ongoing between the two sides.
It should be noted that earlier this morning, nearly 30 masked individuals entered the building of the Shirak Diocese.
