Armenia will never become a province and will not be governed like Belarus, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan said, Armenian media reports.
“Armenia will not become a province, will not be politically dependent, will increase its sovereignty, and the Belarusian model of governance is unacceptable for me and for my country,” Simonyan noted.
Simonyan stressed that the “disrespectful attitude toward Armenia within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization negatively affected relations with Belarus.”
Note that yesterday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus summoned Armenia’s Chargé d'Affaires Artur Sargsyan to the ministry and handed him a protest note.
According to reports, the reason cited was the recent “unfriendly steps” taken by the Armenian side.
Official Minsk particularly objected to Simonyan’s recent statements regarding Belarus.
