Yerevan is seizing enterprises in Armenia in which Russia has invested billions, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said, Russian media reports.

Shoigu accused the Armenian authorities of attempting to sever ties with Russia.

He recalled that Russia had saved Armenia from economic and energy collapse in the 1990s and that the Armenian economy had grown nearly threefold during its 10 years of membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

According to Shoigu, unfriendly actions and blatant double standards are evident in Armenia's treatment of Russian businesses operating in the country.

The Security Council Secretary noted that what is happening to enterprises and entire industries in which Russia has invested billions can only be described as a "hostile takeover."

Shoigu also said that Yerevan was putting forward clearly "ridiculous arguments." In particular, he referred to claims that Armenia would allegedly lose the opportunity to integrate into international railway networks if Russia continued to control the Armenian railway.
