Russia's Putin responds to those calling Oreshnik an outdated weapon

Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded to those calling Oreshnik an outdated weapon, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

During a press conference on the year's results, Putin addressed accusations from the West labeling Oreshnik as an old and a remnant weapon from the Soviet era.

According to him, "Oreshnik" is a modern weapon: "This weapon was developed and designed in modern Russia era. I personally participated in its development process. This is a new weapon."

Putin emphasized that he did not know why the weapon was named Oreshnik.

The Russian President suggested that if the West has doubts about Oreshnik, they should select a target for destruction in Kyiv, concentrate air defense there, and try to prevent the strike.

“No one has the chance to strike Oreshnik,” Putin added.

The Russian President noted that the flight range of the Oreshnik system is up to 5,5 thousand km.

He emphasized that innovations applied in any field are based on existing technologies: "When engineers began working on Oreshnik, they consulted with the Ministry of Defense. Some experts in the West say it is easy to destroy these missiles. What can I say to them? They also have somewhat modern Patriot and THAAD systems. THAAD is our S-400. There are other systems as well. They told us that we wouldn't be able to bypass missile defense systems, but we created Avangard. They have missile defense systems at points in Poland and Romania. The detection range of missile defense systems in Poland is 1,000 kilometers. It takes time to target this distance. Our systems only need a few seconds to be brought to combat mode. If they think this way, let them propose a duel of the 21st century to us and those who pay them to speak. Let them send all their missiles to any point in Europe, and we will strike it with Oreshnik. Let's carry out such an experiment and see what happens. This will be useful for both us and experts in the United States."
