A meeting has begun between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, APA's Russia bureau reports.
The Putin-Pezeshkian talks are taking place in Kazan within the framework of the BRICS summit.
During the protocol part of the discussions, Putin spoke about the development of relations between the two countries. He recalled his recent meeting with his Iranian counterpart in the capital of Turkmenistan.
The Russian President also discussed his country's cooperation with Iran in Syria and the South Caucasus.
Putin thanked the Iranian President for deciding to make a separate visit to Russia to sign the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement and "other important documents."
He noted that Russia and Iran’s approaches to the global agenda are similar or completely aligned.
According to Putin, the task of the Russian Federation and Iran is to strengthen the positive dynamics of trade and economic cooperation.
