A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Moscow, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
Prior to the meeting, the ministers posed for a group photo. The Ministers first met in a limited format without the presence of the press.
Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov delivered a speech during the limited-format meeting. In his speech, the Minister shared Azerbaijan's perspective on cooperation within the CIS in areas such as the economy, trade, transport and communications, artificial intelligence, humanitarian issues, and youth. He also provided information about Azerbaijan's Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
It was noted that Azerbaijan places special importance on the "Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth" initiative, and that the decision expected to be adopted by the heads of state next year to declare the city of Lachin as the CIS Cultural Capital will enable the organization of large-scale joint cultural projects and events this year as well.
Giving detailed information aboutAzerbaijan's COP29 Presidency, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the fact that we are conducting large-scale presidency activities in order to make the negotiation process conducted by us and the preparatory works a significant contribution to global climate action.
Later, a plenary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Nations was held.
At the plenary session, the heads of the foreign policy departments of the CIS countries discussed the prospects of cooperation within the framework of the Union, including the deepening of economic integration, the issues of combating challenges and threats, the resolution of international and regional issues on the agenda, and the expansion of humanitarian contacts.
At the same time, the ministers paid special attention to the preparation for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War.
At the meeting, it was decided to hold the next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS in April next year in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana.
