The Russian Investigative Committee has denied reports that it has launched an investigation into the death of poet Mikhail Lermontov, the Investigative Committee told TASS, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
Noted that Russian State Duma deputy Nikolai Burlyaev made a statement regarding the launch of an investigation into Lermontov's death by the Investigative Committee.

The Russian Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into the murder of poet Mikhail Lermontov, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, MP of State Duma Nikolai Burlyaevsaid, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
"The Investigative Committee has responded, and substantial joint work, including technical tasks, has begun. We will provide information about its progress and results," the MP emphasized.
Note that Burlyaev sent a relevant inquiry to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. The inquiry stated that for many years, Lermontov scholars, criminologists, ballistic experts, and doctors have pointed out that the investigation conducted immediately after the poet’s death in 1841 was not carried out correctly.
According to Burlyaev, Lermontov's death was not a result of duel but a murder.
Recall that the poet Mikhail Lermontov lived a short life and passed away at the age of 26. According to the official version, the poet died in a duel.
The fatal duel with retired Major Nikolay Martynov took place on July 21, 1841, at the foot of Mount Mashuk.
