The position of the current leadership of Armenia regarding Azerbaijan's sovereignty over Karabakh gives Baku a reason to consider the situation there as an internal conflict on its territory, Head of the International Relations Committee of the Russian State Duma Leonid Slutsky said, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, all parties involved in the conflict in Karabakh must cease the bloodshed and return to negotiations.
The parliamentarian also stated that the Russian Federation continues to fulfill its responsibilities regarding the peacekeeping mission in Karabakh.
The deputy recalled that earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had declared his readiness to recognize the sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the 86,600 square kilometers of the Karabakh region.
"This position of the current leadership of Armenia can actually give Baku a reason to interpret the situation in Karabakh as an intra-Azerbaijani conflict," said Slutsky.
