Armenia's aspirations to join the European Union are a legitimate right, but they create difficulties and threaten to disrupt established trade links with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russian President Vladimir Putin stated during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, APA's Russian bureau reports.

"You are well aware of Russia's position. Armenia's aspirations to join the EU are, naturally, the legitimate right of the country and its people. Armenia is a sovereign state, and the Armenian people are free to determine its own development vector. However, this certainly creates difficulties for its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and threatens to nullify the republic's advantages in the EAEU market and disrupt established trade chains," the head of state said.
