Russia expects that Trump and the leadership of Panama will respect the current international legal regime of the Panama Canal during the discussions, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, APA reports.
He noted that Russia proceeds from the fact that the international legal regime of the Panama Canal is clearly defined in the 1977 treaty between the United States and Panama. Trump and the Panamanian leadership should respect the current international legal regime of the Panama Canal in their discussions.
Note that the new President of the United States, Donald Trump, has declared that the Panama Canal should be under American control.
