There is a nuclear threat in the Caspian Sea region, said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, during the 19th General Assembly of OANA held within the framework of the St. Petersburg Forum, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

According to her, Russia is doing everything possible to bring the situation around Iran and Israel back to the negotiation table.

“We are calling for it and doing everything to bring it back to the negotiation platform. We understand what physical danger means for the entire region to which we also belong. There is the Caspian Sea. The Caspian is not just Iran. The Caspian consists of several countries, including our own. For us, this is of direct importance. Israel has access to another body of water that borders several other countries. Remember Fukushima. That was a localized story. Japan had the capabilities to contain the disaster,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Zakharova added that there was no reason for Israel to carry out an operation against Iran. She emphasized that the world is just centimeters away from a nuclear disaster due to Israel’s strikes.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also noted that Iran’s nuclear program should be a subject of negotiations, not aggressive actions.
