Russian MFA spokesperson expresses gratitude to Azerbaijan for evacuating citizens from Iran

Speaking at a briefing held today within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has thanked Azerbaijan, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

Zakharova expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for organizing the evacuation of Russian citizens from Iran during the early days of the Israel-Iran conflict: “I sincerely thank our Azerbaijani partners for the assistance provided, especially during the first days of the escalation. We are resolving all logistical and organizational matters with Baku promptly. To date, more than 500 Russian citizens have crossed through the Astara border checkpoint on the Iran-Azerbaijan border. They specifically note the hospitality and support they received in Azerbaijan.”
