The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed concern over the Armenian authorities’ attempts to move closer to Kyiv and what it described as blackmail tactics against Moscow, APA reports.
The statement was made by Alexei Fadeyev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a briefing.
According to him, Moscow is observing Yerevan’s attempts to “resort to blackmail.”
Fadeyev stated that Brussels, London and Paris are unlikely to make significant investments in the Armenian economy.
The diplomat noted that despite Armenia’s traditionally close ties with Russia, the country is currently witnessing the persecution of pro-Russian figures, threats of arbitration claims against Russian companies operating in Armenia, and efforts to move closer to Kyiv.
“If Yerevan seeks to ensure that its interests are taken into account, it is only natural that Moscow has similar expectations of its Armenian partners. However, for now, we see that the Armenian leadership views the prospects of our relations as a one-sided process. We hope for a more realistic and balanced approach,” Fadeyev stressed.
