First deputy head of the GRU shot in Moscow -UPDATED

An assassination attempt has been carried out against Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev of the Russian Ministry of Defense in Moscow, APA’s Moscow bureau reports, citing the Investigative Committee of Russia.

It was stated that an assassination attempt was made on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

According to the spokesperson of the Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, an unknown person opened fire several times at the general as he was leaving his residence on Volokolamskoye Highway and then fled the scene.

The victim was urgently hospitalized; his condition and the details of the incident are not yet known.

A criminal case has been opened by the Investigative Committee under the article of attempted intentional homicide.

It was reported that an unknown individual opened fire several times at Alekseyev, who lives on the 24th floor.

The general survived and was hospitalized.

Investigators are working at the scene.
