Due to the increase in NATO's combat potential, the most tense situation in the CSTO zone has developed on the Eastern European side, Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, Andrey Belousov said at the meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CSTO, APA reports.
He noted that NATO and the European Union's confrontational stance with Russia led to increased tension in Georgia and the Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.
"Western countries are purposefully trying to undermine the alliance relationships among CSTO countries and discredit the organization's activities. The increasing military threats along the perimeter of the CSTO require the enhancement of forces and resources entering the collective security system," said the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Belousov proposed the practical development of CSTO algorithms for making and implementing decisions on the application of collective security forces and means. According to him, the Russian Federation has accumulated advanced experience in conducting combat operations under modern conditions and is ready to implement practical training for CSTO forces.
The head of the Russian Ministry of Defense added that multiple radical groups are strengthening in Afghanistan, increasing the likelihood of terrorism spreading beyond the country's borders.
