Russian court issues arrest warrant in absentia for chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov

A warrant for arrest in absentia has been issued against famous Russian chess player Garry Kasparov on charges of "justifying terrorism," APA reports, citing TASS.

According to the information, the relevant decision was made by the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow.

According to the court, on December 22, the investigative authorities submitted a motion for Kasparov's arrest in absentia. Garry Kasparov, who is currently recognized as a "foreign agent" in Russia and is also included in the register of terrorists and extremists, has been formally charged.

Kasparov is accused of openly justifying and calling for terrorism using information and telecommunications networks, including the Internet, Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Note that Garry Kasparov has been living outside Russia for many years and is known for his harsh criticism of the Kremlin's policies.
