Russia’s Africa Corps has suffered losses as a result of attacks by armed groups in Mali, said Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
He confirmed that militants had seized the northern city of Kidal.
According to the deputy minister, the situation in the capital Bamako, which was also targeted, is currently calm.
Fighters of the Africa Corps are supporting the Russian embassy.
Note that militants from the Azawad Liberation Front and the local branch of Al-Qaeda attempted to overthrow the Malian government over the weekend. Between 10,000 and 12,000 people took part in the attack. The militants failed to achieve their goal, but Mali’s Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed in the fighting.
