Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and senior officials from the office of the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate at their online consultations highlighted the need for cooperation in protecting the environment and agreed to maintain dialogue, APA reports citing TASS.
"The sides admitted the need for a joint search for response to climate change as a common problem for the planet. They agreed on synchronizing watches on the environment protection track," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement after the consultations held on Wednesday.
The parties discussed topical issues of the international climate agenda ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow due in November 2021.
"Special attention was paid to the issues of meeting the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, national plans on expanding programs in the field of environment protection, modernizing the economy and boosting energy effectiveness," the ministry stated.
