Labor migrants holding a patent in Russia will be prohibited from changing jobs or combining it with another job during their first year, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
A draft law to this effect has been submitted to the State Duma.
According to the draft prepared by the Liberal Democratic Party faction, if a foreign national terminates their contract without a valid reason (such as the company’s liquidation or non-payment of wages) before the end of 12 months, their patent will be revoked, and they will be required to leave the country.
If there are justified grounds for dismissal, migrants will be given one month to find another job.
According to the authors of the bill, this initiative will reduce the flow of migrants into Russia, increase accountability for both migrants and employers, and improve oversight.
