Federal Service on financial monitoring of the Russian Federation (Rosfinmonitoring) added journalist Karen Shainyan to its list of “terrorists and extremists”, forbidding any financial transactions in Russia by the journalist, the database of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs informed, APA reports.
According to Russian independent media, this step indicates authorities have opened a criminal case for extremism against Shainyan and he is on a search warrant.
Note that Shainyan has worked as a correspondent for the “Kommersant” publication's finance department and has been the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Slon” journal.
A criminal case was also opened by the Investigative Committee against another person in Russia-co-chair of Russia’s election watchdog Golos, Grigory Melkonyants, his lawyer Mikhail Biryukov said.
Melkonyants is being charged with organizing an undesirable NGO's work in Russia.
