Russia may stop gas supplies to Armenia in November – Hraparak

Russia may completely halt gas supplies to Armenia from November 1, Armenia’s Hraparak newspaper reports, citing its sources in Russia.

According to the newspaper, Moscow has put forward several demands to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in order to avoid the suspension of gas supplies.

One of the reported demands is that Armenia refrain from discussing the issue of Russia’s 102nd Military Base in Gyumri.

Another demand reportedly concerns halting measures against companies with Russian involvement, including the railway and Gazprom.

According to Hraparak, Moscow is also demanding that Armenia halt its European Union accession process. The newspaper reported that Russia is demanding either the repeal of the law on launching the EU accession process or the announcement of a date for a referendum on the issue.

The article also cited another reported demand that the Armenian authorities stop what Russia considers to be the persecution of pro-Russian politicians.

In addition, the newspaper reported that the demands include the appointment of a deputy prime minister in the Armenian government who would be acceptable to Russia.

Hraparak said it had attempted to verify the information with Armenian government circles, but the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure did not respond to its inquiry.
