The British Ambassador summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was issued a protest, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
It was noted that the protest was made due to a staff member of the British Embassy in Moscow providing false information upon entering the Russian Federation.
It was further stated that stricter requirements will henceforth be imposed on British diplomats in Russia regarding the completion of forms by embassy staff.
"The Russian Federation strongly advises British citizens to provide only truthful information about their past when submitting visa applications.
If London escalates the situation following the expulsion of the British diplomat from Moscow, the Russian Federation will respond immediately," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
The Foreign Ministry added that the Russian Federation has imposed sanctions on 30 British citizens in response to London's hostile actions.
These include members of Britain's political establishment, representatives of military blocs, and several British journalists, who have been added to Russia's "undesirable persons" list.
The list also includes UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.
Furthermore, Moscow has imposed sanctions against the UK's Ministers of Interior, Finance, Health, and Justice.
