Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the pursuit of the Russian oil tanker “Marinera” by U.S. and NATO forces as an anomalous situation, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated it is monitoring the situation around the “Marinera” oil tanker.
The ministry said that the vessel is sailing under the Russian flag in international waters of the North Atlantic in full compliance with international maritime law.
“The U.S. Coast Guard vessel has been tracking the Marinera ship for several days, despite the fact that our vessel is located approximately 4,000 kilometers from the American coast,” the statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
It was added that official Moscow hopes Western countries will adhere to the principles of freedom of navigation on the high seas.
