Rossiya Airlines suspends flights to Cuba over refueling difficulties

Rossiya Airlines (part of the Aeroflot Group – ed.) will suspend flights to Cuba, APA’s Moscow bureau reports, citing the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya).

It was stated that after the evacuation of tourists, the airline will temporarily suspend flights to Cuba in the coming days.

“In the coming days, Rossiya Airlines will operate only a number of return flights from Havana and Varadero to Moscow to ensure the transportation of Russian tourists currently in Cuba. After that, the airline’s flight schedule will be temporarily suspended until the situation changes.”

The agency explained that this decision is related to difficulties with refueling aircraft in Cuba.

Another Russian airline flying to Cuba, Nordwind Airlines, has also announced the suspension of flights to Cuba. Starting from February 12, the airline will operate only evacuation flights from Varadero, Holguin, and Cayo Coco to Moscow for passengers already on the island.

Rosaviatsiya stated that the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Federal Air Transport Agency are closely monitoring the situation regarding flights between the countries and are in constant contact with Cuban aviation authorities. The parties are exploring alternative options to resume flights in both directions in the interests of citizens of both countries.
